"Where it all Begins for the Canadian Canoe" - Basic Canoeing Course
"Where it all Begins in the Canadian Canoe" is where you begin your adventure in a canoe with a paddle. We will develop fundamental skills in a boat and give you tools which will let you decide whether a hobbie on the water is right for you. Here at WaterFlow we are passionate when it comes to helping people and developing skills. Paddling a canoe not only gives us enjoyment, but allows us to develop a relationship with the water and understand how she performs.
Do you want to learn how to canoe? Have no idea where to start? Maybe you have tried on your own and now it's time to learn some basic fundemental skills? Then the "Where it all Begins in a Canadian Canoe" course is for you!
Our aim of this course is to coach you through the fundemental flat water skills creating a foundation from which you can build your paddling knowledge.
In this 4 week course you will learn basic skills and information for getting onto the water:
The names of the parts of a Canoe
How to enter and exit the boat
How to properly grip the paddle
How to self rescue (how to get back in a canoe) You will get Wet!
Stopping the Boat
Turning and correcting the boat
Sweep Stroke (bow sweep and stern sweep)
And finally, you will start to combine these skills. You will also be given an introduction to the rescue progression process resulting in your understanding of Self-rescue, T-rescue and the Curl Rescue techniques. (Be prepared to get Wet).
Duration: 6 hours of flat water over 2 weeks (1.5 hours per session)
Location: Flat Water; Buntzen Lake, Belcarra
Equipment: All canoe related equipment is provided (canoe, paddle, PFD, helmet). You will need to invest in proper paddling clothing including a wetsuit, drytop or outer layer, and footwear (river shoes, neoprene booties, old runners).
- Able to Swim in normal paddling clothing.
