"Safety in a Nutshell" - Foundation Safety and Rescue Course is designed to create an understanding of safe practices and rescue techniques to be used by recreational and professional paddlers. This course is not specific to craft because we believe a foundation knowledge base should be learnt to develop an greater understanding of safe paddling.

With technical knowledge, practical learning and scenario based coaching you will learn how to be safe and offer aid if required. We are passionately about creating safe paddling environments for people to enjoy water around the world.

The objective of this training course is to teach simple and safe skills that can provide the tools to problem solve simple common paddling scenarios in flat/sheltered water regardless of the craft.

Candidates will learn:
  • Preventative planing techniques. 
  • Skills which will enable them to ensure the safety of themselves and others.
  • Appropriate boat and bank based rescue skills which can be used to help themselves and/or others in difficult situations.
In this 1 day course you will learn foundation safety and rescue skills and information for getting onto the water in any craft.

DETAILS:

Duration: 8 hour day of flat water and bank based time
Location: Lake or Inlet Environment
Equipment: All kayak and canoe related equipment is provided. You will need to invest in proper padding clothing including a wetsuit, drytop or outer layer, and footwear (river shoes, neoprene booties, old runners). All other padding related equipment is provided (kayak, canoe, paddle, PFD, helmet and spray skirt). YOU WILL GET WET!

PREREQUISITES:

  • Able to Swim in normal paddling clothing
  • Basics Course or equivalent training.
